Helen Zia: S&C Centennial Guest Speaker

The Square and Circle Centennial Committee is pleased to announce that Helen Zia will be the guest speaker at our Centennial Celebration Luncheon:

Helen Zia is a Chinese American journalist and activist for Asian American, LGBTQ, and women’s rights. She has received numerous journalism awards and was named one of the most influential Asian Americans of the decade by A. Magazine (2001). Similar to Square and Circle Club’s seven founders, her devotion to serve the community began when she was a teenager – she participated in protests calling for peace and equality. Among her many causes, she is most known for her advocacy in the 1980s to get justice for Vincent Chin. This was covered in the documentary, Who Killed Vincent Chin? (1987). Helen is the successful author of Asian American Dreams: The Emergence of an American People (2002), My Country Versus Me (2003) about scientist Wen Ho Lee, and The Last Boat Out of Shanghai (2019).
