The APIA (Asian Pacific Islander American) Biography Project launched its 11th Annual APIA Heritage Month celebration at the San Francisco Main Library with a kickoff event on April 28. Square and Circle Club is the fiscal agent and cosponsor of this annual event with the Asian American Studies Department at San Francisco State University, TACT (The Association of Chinese Teachers), and the San Francisco Public Library. This year’s theme is “More Than a Song: APIA Singers.” On April 28, through displays, games, craft activities, and live music, children and the community-at-large learned how APIA singers fought for social justice with songs and actions.
On the 3rd floor at the Chinese Center, the Club held a display entitled “Square and Circle Club Presents: Musicals for the Community.” Two to three original S&C posters and several playbills showcased how the Club produced musical fundraisers during the 1950s to raise thousands of dollars for the community. Our musicals were “More Than a Song.” This exhibit will be extended through September 22, 2024.
