10th Annual APIA Heritage Month Celebration

On April 30, 2023, the APIA (Asian Pacific Islander American) Biography Project kicked off the 10th anniversary of its annual APIA Heritage Month Celebration in May at the San Francisco Main Public Library (SFPL). S&C was the cosponsor and fiscal agent. Other cosponsors included TACT (The Association of Chinese Teachers) and the SFPL.

This year’s theme was APIA politicians (past and present) of which 26 were chosen to be on the 2023 APIA Wall of Fame on display at the library for the entire month of May. About 100 children and their families showed up at the kick-off to an afternoon of games and arts and crafts to learn about these politicians and the voting process. From April through July, at the Chinese Center on the third floor of the library, there was a special APIA exhibit of Chinese American politicians and a 1930s news article from the Club’s archives about Chinese American women registering to vote in San Francisco. The Wall of Fame, resources, and activity book are available online at the APIA website (apiabiography.sfsu.edu).
