Square and Circle Club continued to cosponsor and serve as fiscal agent for the APIA (Asian Pacific Islander American) Heritage Month Celebration at the San Francisco Main Public Library. This year’s 9th annual celebration was entitled “Fighting for the American Dream: APIA WWII Military Gold Medalists.” The event commemorated the three Asian American groups of World War II veterans who received the Congressional Gold Medal (Japanese, Filipino, and Chinese). Other event cosponsors included the Asian American Studies Department at San Francisco State University, the San Francisco Public Library, and The Association of Chinese Teachers (TACT). The Club shared with the community four WWII veteran stories narrated by members Lorraine Dong, Claudia Jeung, Emily Salcido, and Ginger Tam. For three months from May to July 2023, a wall display and videos about their family’s WWII veterans were looped continuously every day at the Chinese Center in the SF Main Public Library. This and another S&C video about the Chinese American WWII Congressional Gold Medal can still be viewed at the APIA Biography Project website under “Resources” in the menu bar.
