S&C WWII Veteran Family Histories Shared with Community and Country

The Chinese American Citizens Alliance (CACA) began a national campaign to identify and document Chinese American World War II veterans when the latter were collectively granted the Congressional Gold Medal on December 20, 2018. Square and Circle Club answered that call as a service project for the community and country. Five Square and Circle Club members, Lilly Chan, Lorraine Dong, Claudia Jeung, Emily Salcido, and Ginger Tam first shared their family’s World War II veteran stories at the Club’s January 16, 2021 General Meeting. Their family histories were later put together as the focus for an article by San Francisco State University Professor Eric Pido. Entitled “These Helmets Have Many Stories to Tell,” it was recently published in the Chinese Historical Society of America’s journal, Chinese America: History & Perspectives (2021).
