
Karan Gurung is the 2020 Square and Circle Club Grand Scholarship recipient. He will be transferring to UC Davis in Fall 2020, majoring in International Relations. As a refugee, he has been working many different jobs to financially support himself. Aside from maintaining good grades, Karan is part of the Men’s Soccer Team and Men’s Track and Field Team. After graduating, Karan plans to return to Nepal to continue helping his family and community, especially after the devastation of the 2015 earthquake.

Julie Chan-Mach is receiving this year’s Square and Circle Club Nursing Scholarship. She is completing her second semester in the Registered Nursing program. Julie has been working in the healthcare field as a pharmacy technician and medical interpreter for more than ten years. While working full time and taking care of her family, she has earned an Associate degree in Health Education and is currently pursuing her nursing degree.

Cindy Feng is this year’s Square and Circle Club General Scholarship recipient. She is the first person in her family to attend college and would like to complete a double major in Economics and Data Science at UC Berkeley. Cindy plans to utilize her education for improving lives in Venezuela. In Julie’s spare time, she volunteers in Project SHINE to help new immigrants practice their English skills. She also uses her multi-lingual skills (Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin) to tutor her math classmates.
